Write Up:
Despite rain and clouds, an intrepid group of eight climbers started at Many Glacier Hotel towards Morning Eagle Falls and Peak 9,175. The skies cleared for the off-trail ascent through a beautiful basin above the Falls. We had blue sky for awhile and great views from the top. Our time on the summit was unfortunately shortened when Ron first heard buzzing and crackling of impending lighting. We dashed off of the top and took our "summit" shot several hundred feet down just above the main couloir. Despite halos, buzzing poles, and brief shocks, we all made it safely out. Total mileage was a bit over 17 with 5,700' ascent.
