Starting out from the Goat Haunt hiker shelters early Saturday morning toward Kootenai Lakes we soon left the trail and crossed the first obvious marsh about 1.5 miles up. Probably about 1000' of rough bushwacking with big downfall gained us the NW ridge and easy, scenic going. Just below the cliffs we traversed slightly descending into and across the large West face. This is about 7200'- 7500'elevation, mid mountain. The West face was partly melted but wet and risky for rock fall. We elected to continue traversing to the SW face where you can see Stony Indian Peaks. we mostly climbed up the northern edge of this face on a slightly defined ridge line. a few easy cliff breaks. led us up to the long summit ridge which leads south toward Stony Indian peaks. the summit ridge was mostly melted and a nice hike. This route missed all but optional snow fields and except for the beginning bush whack is very scenic and pleasant going. On the event was Don Scharfe, Sara Boilen, Rick Thomas, Warren Lane, Brian Kennedy and a special guest, Terry Kennedy who shared some historic photos and adventures on this massive mountain. Phot by Brian Kenndy is Terry with the huge N face of Cleveland he climbed in 1976. Terry and two climbers, on a first ascent, climbed some 4000' up unknown terrain with one bivy near the top.
